Brief History
Sta. Rita de Cascia Parochial School is a catholic educational institution owned and administered by the Sta. Rita de Cascia Parish in Baclaran. The school is a member of the Diocese of Parañaque Parochial Schools Association ( DOPPSA ) which is under the Manila Archdiocesan Parochial Schools Association ( MAPSA ).
1957 – Established as a Parochial School named OUR LADY OF CARMEL SCHOOL, founded by REV.FR. NICANOR DE GUZMAN and ran by the Carmelite discalded Sisters.
1959 – The Archbishop of Manila and the school founder entrusted the school to the Augustinian Recollect Missionaries to develop and improve the standard of the school. The school started offering Kindergarten and primary courses both operated with official permit from the Bureau of Private Schools. In the same year, the school building was completed through the untiring support of charitable parishioners led by Dr. and Mrs. Hilarion Zialcita and the Christian Family Movement ( CFM ).
1960 – The Bureau of Private Schools issued the permit to open the Intermediate Course.
1971 – Rev. Fr. Antonio S.J. Mortillero became the Parish Priest and Director of the School until January 1994. During Fr. Mortillero’s term the new church was constructed; the Parochial School was turned over to the Administration of the Parish Priest. Government recognition for the complete Elementary Course was granted effective July 6, 1971.
1982 – Marked the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Our Lady of Carmel School.
1994 – Rev. Fr. Antonio R. Villanueva was appointed by his Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin as Parish Priest and School Director; air conditioning units were installed in all the offices and the Kindergarten classroom; canteen operation was turned over to the school.
2000 – Rev. Fr. Stephen C. Villanueva took over as Parish Priest and Director of the school; the ruins of the old church building were restored as the multi-function hall; landscaping was done; the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes was repaired.
2004 – Rev. Fr. Jose P. Duabe assumed the position as School Director, as well as, Parish Priest of Sta. Rita de Cascia Parish Church. During Fr. Boy’s term the main building was renovated; most classrooms were air-conditioned; school ground cemented; main and the old buildings were repainted; new school canteen and the bookstore were opened.
2005 – The school’s name Our Lady of Carmel School was changed and registered as Sta. Rita de Cascia Parochial School in honor of its patroness Sta. Rita de Cascia, Saint of the Impossible
2007 – Marked the GOLDEN JUBILEE celebration of Sta. Rita de Cascia Parochial School with its Theme “ POWER TO MOVE AT 50 “.The Alumni Association gave its support and active involvement in the celebration; plaques of recognition were awarded to the school by the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines ( CEAP ) and the Diocese of Parañaque Parochial Schools Association, Inc. ( DOPPSA ); the multi-function hall ( The Ruins ) had a facelift with its new façade and decorative-tile flooring and was renamed Centennial Hall which was in commemoration of the 100th Year Anniversary of Sta. Rita de Cascia Parish Church.
2008 - Grade School Science Laboratory was constructed at the ground floor of the old building.
2009 - The School Library and the Computer Laboratory were completely renovated.
2010 – All classrooms from Nursery to Grade 6 are fully air-conditioned.
2011 - Rev. Fr. Jerico H. Habunal took over as the School Director, as well as Parish Priest during the Second Semester of this year.
2012 – The school embraced a new teaching approach of Genyo E-learning. Modernized facilities are provided.
